German W Aparicio Jr is founder of informedCITIES, a multidisciplinary firm focused on emerging technologies for future cities, cities driven by real-time data, systems and networks making urban areas better places to live, work and play. His current research interests include maps, data visualization, urban sensing, building information modeling and geographic information systems. German Aparicio was born and raised in Los Angeles. He received a Bachelor of Architecture from Cal Poly Pomona where he was awarded a thesis design award by the department of architecture and a Masters of Science in Architectural Studies (SMArchS) Design and Computation from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). German Aparicio has both research and professional experience in the field of computational design as a consultant for Ove Arup design engineering firm and as research associate at SENSEable CityLaboratory (MIT). German Aparicio has taught architectural design at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), California College of Arts (CCA) in San Francisco and University of California, Berkeley and helped lead workshops around the world including workshops in Environmental Sensing and Actuated Architectures at the Institute for Computational Design, University of Stuttgart in Stuttgart, Germany. Most recently, German has been awarded Autodesk’s IDEA Studio Residency Award for a proposal on Future Cities and Urban Sensing.
Souzan Kachabi is a Bachelors of Architecture candidate at the California College of the Arts and research assistant at CCA’s URBANLab. Souzan’s senior work focuses on urban design strategies and sustainable practices. Souzan is currently in her final year at CCA and is participating in a collaborative studio in partnership with Skidmore Owings & Merrill.
